What forms of accommodation are available to you apart from hotels? You want to hold an event and are looking for somewhere different to hold it. Apart from hotels, which predominate in terms of corporate accommodation, what options are open to you? Unique Venues are increasing in popularity and can work well for special functions, but don't always have adequate meeting space facilities and equipment for big events. Many unique venues operate like hotels, offering sales managers and conference coordinators while others are more limited. It is definitely worth doing some research to find out more about them, however.
In the meantime you might want to consider some of these: Airport Hotels are increasing in popularity these days.
Luxury Trains are exotic and very different but somewhat lacking in space. Other disadvantages are that you do, of course, have to follow a fixed itinerary/time schedule, and they can be noisy and quite expensive. Aparthotels normally provide the same services as a hotel apart from not having a food and beverages service. This sort of venue would be suitable for delegates who are already acquainted, and can therefore share an apartment.
Luxury Villas offer privacy and freedom, often with more amenities but normally with less services laid on. Cruise Ships make an interesting and very different venue option. They allow you to control your delegates, have all facilities available in one place, and let you forget concerns over food and beverages as they tend to offer an all-inclusive formula. So popular are these now becoming, in fact, that in the UK, for example, they are fast becoming the growing choice of holiday. The event usually works out cheaper because more is included in the cost. Full-ship charters are also beginning to happen, according to industry reports, the average daily rate sometimes working out less than for a hotel. However, bookings need to be made at least 12 months in advance. Some cruise liners have massive capacity and it is not unknown for as many as 4,300 passengers to be catered for, with such unusual specials as rock climbing and ice skating to be thrown in for good measure. Dedicated conference facilities are also taken as read on board most new cruise liners. In terms of conference space, there is ample for virtually any size of event including product launches. Castles or Historic Houses offer an historic ambience in a rural location- again, meaning more control over your delegates -, have very spacious, high-ceilinged rooms and a pleasant, often luxurious environment which, however, can sometimes lack modern features. Universities and some schools are quiet, academically stimulating, offer a pleasant, spacious environment with ready-made facilities for conferences. They also have additional sports and recreation amenities. Being out of town, you will enjoy more control over your delegates, and the cost tends to be low. They are only usable at certain times of the year (during student holidays). A Retreat Centre is usually a place with a religious or spiritual atmosphere such as a convent or monastery. It is often austere which means it can lack basic amenities although many have become more modernized to cope with modern-day requirements. Retreat Centres work best for smaller groups who are looking for a quiet meeting environment featuring "an away from it all" type of atmosphere. The plus side is that they are very quiet, conducive for brainstorming activities (no interruptions or disturbances), stimulating in terms of the surrounding environment which is often rural, and effective as a means of controlling delegates. |
